The Story Behind the Bottle
Javier Murúa and his father Julian are behind many of our top selling Riojas and our Buyer, Beth, has a long friendship with them. On a recent visit she was treated to a taste of this old vine, single vineyard cuvée, Finca Montalvillo. In fact it's a tiny parcel of vines at 500 metres altitude, in the shadow of Monte Yerga. 50 years old and planted on special soils of pebble stones, clay and limestone, the vines produce very small yields. Just 250 cases in fact and Beth insisted she took the lot. Javier has carefully blended mostly Tempranillo, with a portion of Mazuelo for its acidity and aroma, and a touch of rounder Garnacha. Silky with juicy berry and vanilla, it's glorious solo and versatile with food. Try spicy chicken or tapas.
