Flavour Profile
Prelude Clos Apalta is a luxurious red from what’s arguably Chile’s finest estate. Described as a “dream destination” by Decanter magazine, it’s a stunningly beautiful property in the premium Colchagua Valley. Complete with a hotel, pool and luxury apartments, it’s surrounded by forest and overlooks steeply terraced vineyards.
The Colchagua Valley has near-perfect conditions for growing vines, with some of the clearest skies in the world. The estate’s iconic gravity-fed winery even has a telescope mounted on its roof, so guests can round off their evening with a spot of world-class stargazing.
Carménère is to Chile what Malbec is to Argentina – a near-forgotten Bordeaux grape that’s found its true home in South America. Here it’s blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to brilliant effect. Awarded an outstanding 95 points by James Suckling, this is a rich, beautifully balanced red with juicy blackberry and plum flavours and a savoury black olive twist.
Treat it like a fine claret. Decant half an hour before serving and enjoy with roast beef or lamb. If there’s a drop left after the main event, it’ll be delicious with a cheese board too.
