Château Pavie-Macquin 2022
There's nothing but praise for this luscious release from Saint-Émilion 1er Grand Cru Classé Pavie-Macquin. "a stunning bouquet of pure cassis, liquid black raspberries, truffle, scorched earth, and graphite. Full-bodied, concentrated" (Jeb Dunnock).

The Story Behind the Bottle
East of medieval Saint-Émilion, lies Pavie-Macquin and its 15 hectares of vines on the Côte Pavie. These are next door to Pavie, Pavie-Decesse and Troplong-Mondot. The property takes half its name from Albert Macquin, who was key in finding a solution to phylloxera. His idea was to graft onto different rootstocks – it saved the vineyards of Bordeaux and all Europe. History aside, the quality of the château's wines has rocketed since new owners brought in Stephane Derenoncourt as consultant in 1990 and Nicolas Thienpont in 1994. Pavie-Macquin has a complex patchwork of soils, with cooler parcels in the north and warmer plots in the south. By blending these, they produce a wine "flawlessly balanced"(J Dunnock), "a gorgeous wine" (Vinous).
