If you care more about the wine in a bottle than the label stuck to it, you’ll love this ‘cleanskin’. It’s a crisp, unoaked Aussie Chardonnay from a top cellar in South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula. Just one catch – we’re forbidden to name them.

Situated just half an hour south of Adelaide, the Fleurieu Peninsula contains the premium regions of McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. As such, it’s home to some of Australia’s most exciting family wineries. And during a recent trip there, our Aussie wine sleuth, Dan Parrott, happened upon this crisp Chardonnay. The celebrated family cellar was needing to clear some cellar space in a hurry, and offered Dan a deal if he kept their name under wraps. So on went the anonymous ‘cleanskin’ labels and Dan snapped up the lot. And this really is an exceptional Chardy, full to the brim with bright fruit character – expect plenty of peach and tongue tingling citrus. It’s an ideal aperitif, or partner with seafood, Thai cuisine or a fresh mango salad.
