The Story Behind the Bottle
Averys Special Cuvée Champagne was first blended by Ronald Avery in 1963 and ever since has been made in partnership with the family-owned Boizel Champagne house. Made with a high proportion of Pinot Noir and Meunier, with two years lees ageing, it has a luxuriously rich and toasty character you rarely find at this price. That’s no doubt why food and wine writer Fiona Beckett described it as “One of the best wine merchant own labels I’ve tasted”. With classic brioche and biscuit aromas, elegant citrus and orchard fruits, and a luxurious stream of fine, persistent bubbles, the only thing to distinguish it from the famous Grande Marque Champagnes is its price. In 3-litre jeroboams, the equivalent of four standard bottles, it’s the perfect size for a special celebration.
