The Story Behind the Bottle
Established in 1849, Andresen is one of the last remaining family owned and run port houses. Its founder, Jann Hinrich Andresen, was born on the Friesian island of Föhr in 1825 and settled in Porto by chance. As a young sailor, he was chased through the streets of the town by the captain of his ship, having demonstrated his enterprising nature by inviting local inhabitants to inspect a polar bear skin on board – for a small fee! The current owner Carlos Flores dos Santos presides over a magnificent collection of aged ports, resting in barrel in his extensive cellars, and his chief winemaker Alvaro Van Zeller takes great pride in selecting the best for his Royal Choice 20 Year Old Tawny. Enjoy on its own or with a selection of nuts.
