Spier Estate (a former IWSC ‘South African Wine Producer of the Year’) has been crafting superb wines for three centuries. That makes them older than most of the great châteaux of Bordeaux! Their Chief Winemaker Frans Smit has won scores of Golds and Trophies, including the much coveted General Smuts Trophy. Creative Block is his most awarded range of wines and part of a very worthwhile project supporting local artists. Each release combines grapes from different vineyard blocks to create something unique and so much more than the sum of its parts. The number in the name refers to the varietals used to create each wine, here, Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Viognier. Concentrated, dense and velvety, the wine is best enjoyed with hearty dishes.
