Fans of our usual Saracosa will be bowled over by the intensity of its big brother, Governo. Suave and seductive, this is a full, rounded blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, aged for four months in small oak barrels. What’s more, a portion of grapes were left to dry for 20 days, adding terrific concentration to the wine. It’s a method known as Governo in Tuscany, dating from the 14th century. We think this wine is nothing short of spectacular – it was awarded a whopping 98 points from Italian wine critic Luca Maroni last vintage. The wine is a testament to the talents of Sofia Barbanera, the fourth generation winemaker at this great Tuscan family estate. Decant and serve with a local favourite – rabbit casserole, other game or slow-cooked beef.
