Tarija

Be the first to sample a top Bolivian red. It's gorgeous stuff from a cellar founded in 1930 and with oodles of Golds. Using grapes from some of the highest vineyards on the planet, this fabulous Marselan Tannat is velvety with lush spiced fruit.

When we talk of South American wines, it's Chile and Argentina that spring to mind. But just north of both of these lies Bolivia, described by the New York Times as "one of the most interesting wine countries in the world," "quality is extremely high". For the first time in the UK you can enjoy a Bolivian red – a sumptuous, oak matured Marselan Tannat from a family cellar that has won armsful of awards since its foundation 90 years ago. Franz Molina is the winemaker and, for this wine, he has sourced two parcels of grapes from the Tarija Valley – from El Portillo vineyards at 2,000 metres altitude and from Suncho Hayaco at 1,920, both surrounded by the Andes mountains. Our Buyer Beth has certainly gone the miles with this rich, ripe red.

"Big, rich with sweet ripe tannins. If you love Argentina's reds, you will adore this Bolivian star" Beth Willard
