Château Calon-Ségur is a leading star in Saint Estèphe, classified as a Third Growth in 1855. Its terroir is revered as one of Bordeaux’s finest. During the 18th century, it was the property of Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur, known as the ‘Prince of Vines’. Marquis de Calon is its much praised second wine. Merlot dominated and from younger vines, it is made to have immediate appeal. Still, with ageing of 17 months in barrel, 30% new oak, it's serious and will age. The vintage has been well reviewed. James Suckling, for one, is full of praise, calling this 2016 “savory and fine and so delicious”. With bright fruit, lovely floral notes and soft tannins, this drinks very well now or will cellar. A beautifully appealing 92-93 Point claret.
