The Story Behind the Bottle
Vintage after vintage, the wines of this Second Growth Saint-Estèphe show just why Château Cos d’Estournel is considered among the legends of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. And with two 98 point scores, from James Suckling and Wine Advocate (also in 2017), their 2018 does not disappoint. It lies in the south of the commune, on the border with Pauillac, and is regarded as the leading estate of the appellation. As you'd expect, the wine is Cabernet-led, with 23% Merlot, aged in 50% new oak to match the power of the fruit. 2018 enjoyed a dry, hot summer, so you can expect very generous fruit intensity and weight, currently tightly packed, in this vintage. A wine that will reward patience. Preferably leave until 2028 at the earliest, and decant.
