Named a First Growth of South Africa by Tim Atkin MW, the wines famously overdeliver for the price – this is the exceptional Vergelegen Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, now with almost five years age.
Don’t miss this opportunity to secure an older vintage of this Stellenbosch classic. It’s largely Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot playing the minor role, all aged in French oak barriques, 20% of that new, to obtain the perfect balance of vanilla oak and rich black fruit. Expect classic cassis and graphite aromas with hallmark Vergelegen spice – singing with juicy cassis fruit, tobacco and cedar. In a lineup with top-quality Bordeaux, it certainly wouldn’t look out of place.
