The Story Behind the Bottle
A beacon of the Super Tuscan movement, the Ornellaia estate on the Tuscan coast enjoys beautiful views and a unique microclimate that ensures grapes ripen slowly for maximum flavour. The gentle sea breezes temper the summer heat, while surrounding hills give protection from the cold winter winds. The rich volcanic and marine soils provide perfect conditions for grape growing but the winery’s winemaker, Axel Heinz in 2022, and consultant Michel Rolland leave nothing to chance. This is like a Bordeaux second wine, using only part estate-grown Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet – a rule-breaking blend known as a Super Tuscan – but made with the same passion and brilliance as the ‘Grand Vin’. An ideal red with classic Italian meaty pasta dishes.
