Flavour Profile
Who doesn’t love a margarita? Tangy, salty and super-refreshing, this Mexican cocktail is popular the world over. Tarquin’s Mexican Zest & Salt Gin is a tribute to the legendary margarita, with a distinctly Cornish flair.
It all started when self-taught master distiller, Tarquin Leadbetter, set out to establish the first Cornish distillery in over 100 years. Armed with a tiny copper pot still, a suitcase full of weird and wonderful botanicals and his prized surfboard, Tarquin returned to the West Country and set about learning how to make gin on his kitchen stove.
After a year of experimenting Tarquin perfected his recipe, settling on a blend of 12 botanicals from around the world, as well as from his own back garden. Now armed with a second-hand 250-litre copper pot still from Portugal, small-batch production began properly and in 2013, Southwestern Distillery sold its first bottle of Tarquin’s Gin.
Crafted in small batches and lovingly infused with zingy fresh lime, citrus, sweet agave and Cornish sea salt, this zesty gin is best enjoyed with a light tonic or served in a fiery picante.
