Flavour Profile
Navarra is an exciting wine region of Spain, one of the first to break rank and use “imposter” grapes, like Cabernet, in its wines. Its winemakers haven’t been afraid to experiment either, bringing us cracking wines like Señorío de Sarría Vendimia Seleccionada.
This mellow red, crafted from wine usually destined for their flagship Reserva Especial, is made by Milagros Rodriguez. She is chief winemaker at the 65-year-old Señorío de Sarria, an estate highly regarded throughout the world. It lies in Puente La Reina, where two trails on the historic Camino de Santiago cross. The estate was established in 1953, but it was major investment in 2001, in both vineyards and cellar, that saw the most significant step up in quality.
This is a top red wine, made from Cabernet Sauvignon with a splash of old-vine Graciano and aged in both French and American oak barrels. It’s packed with juicy black cherry, chocolate and cocoa flavours, with hints of raspberry and eucalyptus. Superb with grilled meats or rice dishes.
