We use our Selección Especial label for secret deal wines from top cellars, bottled anonymously and sold for a fraction of their value. So, we can’t reveal the winery name behind Selección Especial Numerada 72 Rioja Crianza, but here’s what we can tell you.
First of all, it comes from grapes grown on dry-farmed, ancient bush vines. These don’t yield many grapes, but the grapes they do produce are intense and packed full of flavour.
It’s made mainly from Tempranillo, with just a dash of Garnacha and aged for a year in seasoned oak barriques. After several more years ageing in the bodega’s cellar, the widely acclaimed 2021 vintage is now drinking at its peak. Silky and expressive with ripe red fruit, plums and toasty oak spice.
