The Story Behind the Bottle

According to Decanter magazine: “intrepid South American winemakers are overcoming extreme conditions to produce fresh and delicate wines” – and you’d be hard pushed to find a better example than Schroeder Estate Patagonia Chardonnay.

Having lost a fortune in debt-ridden Germany in the 1920s, Juan Schroeder emigrated and set up a farm in Argentina. Three-quarters of a century later, amidst the country’s 2001 debt crisis, his family established their now hugely successful estate in Patagonia. In the last 15 years it’s picked up plenty of awards, including ‘Winery of the Year’ in 2006.

The strong Patagonian winds help create an elegant, fresh style of Chardonnay – and that’s exactly what you’ll taste here. Expect citrus and mineral aromas, with tropical and floral notes adding a lovely lift.

Serve lightly chilled with grilled sea bass, creamy risotto or a simple roast chicken. It’s also a great match for buttery prawns or a crisp Caesar salad.
