Flavour Profile
Samuel Billaud is a benchmark in Chablis and a true tour de force. In the past decade that we’ve listed Samuel’s wines, we’ve seen them soar from being relatively unknown to competing with the most famous names in the region.
Les Grands Terroirs Chablis comes from three parcels of vines – Les Pargues towards the village of Préhy, Les Cartes between the 1ers Crus of Vaillons and Montmains where the vines are 60 years old, and Bas de Chapelots, just below the 1er Cru of Montée de Tonnerre. A village Chablis in name only, this easily rivals many 1ers Crus.
“Let’s cut to the chase. Samuel Billaud is one of the most exciting winemakers in Chablis. He has the ‘touch’ that elevates wines to another level, an uncommon sense of completeness and complexity. Would I put him in the same tier as Vincent Dauvissat and Raveneau? I would…” Neal Martin, Vinous.com.
