The Story Behind the Bottle
Most Dolcetto is ideal for drinking in its fruit-filled youth. Madonna della Grazie Vigna Tecc, however, firmly bucks the trend producing a serious wine that’s ageing brilliantly. It is from one of the region’s finest producers, the fourth-generation family estate Luigi Einaudi. It was founded in 1897 by the eponymous 23-year-old Luigi, who started with just 12 hectares of Dolcetto. Today the family boasts 60 hectares, with most of that being dedicated to Nebbiolo. This fine red is from Dogliani, the top cru for Dolcetto, the grapes all picked from the south-facing vineyards of the village Madonna della Grazie and a single vineyard called Vigna Tecc. Its vines were planted in 1937 and 1988, the oldest on the estate. Lower yields, strict selection and ageing for 10 months in French oak barrels all adds to the power and complexity of this great red.
