Flavour Profile
López de Heredia is a historic Rioja estate, renowned for its long-aged Viña Tondonia Tinto Reserva.
“One of the last great bastions of Rioja tradition” (Hugh Johnson), stepping into the López de Heredia winery is akin to travelling back in time 100 years – there’s no stainless steel or new oak to be found anywhere.
Each wine is named after different plots on the estate. The stunning Tondonia Tinto Reserva is made with a Tempranillo-based blend of grapes from the estate’s most famous vineyard and was aged for six years in barrels, then bottled unfiltered for maximum flavour.
A wine of great complexity, the beautifully mature 2001 vintage reveals a savoury nose of spices and leather, vibrant berry and cigar box. The palate is rounded and remarkably fresh and long. The perfect wine to enjoy with a roast leg of lamb. Decant early, then savour slowly.
