Tucked away in the far south of Burgundy lies the Mâconnais region, home to the fine whites of Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran. But much less known are the region’s remarkable red wines. In fact, these wines are unique in Burgundy, because instead of Pinot Noir, most (including this one) are made from Gamay – the famous grape of Beaujolais. That’s not surprising when you consider how close these vineyards are to those of the Beaujolais region. Quite literally where Burgundy meets Beaujolais, this is fresh and fragrant but with impressive weight of fruit. Think a whole basket of vibrant red berries with floral tones and silky tannins. A red for Burgundy and Beaujolais lovers alike, enjoy with charcuterie, soft cheeses or a mushroom tart.
