Weingut Leitz is located in Rüdesheim at the western end of the Rheingau, a region which “established Germany’s reputation for world-class white wines” wrote Hugh Johnson. Widely regarded as one of the finest estates in the region, the winery itself was hit by a bomb in WW2 and had to be rebuilt from scratch by Josef Leitz. Today, it is run by his grandson, Johannes Leitz, who took over what was then a 2.9-hectare property in 1985, aged just 21, and grew it to the 140 hectares he has today.
Leitz Pinot Blanc is a wonderful modern white from Johannes. Enjoy intense pear and papaya fruit, with a pleasing roundness from lees ageing. A satisfying white on its own or with a creamy fish pie or chicken.
