The Story Behind the Bottle
Merlot is loved worldwide for its velvet-smooth fruit and easy-going charm. While not native to Italy, this grape has thrived here for decades, both as a single varietal and in blends like the famed Super Tuscans. For this red wine, winemaker Davide Dias sources grapes from two regions: Romagna, known for its rich culinary heritage, and Abruzzo, where coastal breezes help achieve the ideal balance of ripeness and freshness. Made without oak to let the fruit shine, Il Basso is youthful, juicy and fruit-driven, with mouthfuls of ripe red and black fruits that capture the essence of these regions. Silky enough to enjoy on its own, it’s also a superb partner for Italian dishes like braised chicken, lasagne and risotto.
