The Story Behind the Bottle
Such is the reputation of New Zealand’s Felton Road that the world’s top winemakers queue to work there at harvest time. It’s fully self-sufficient, complete with goats and cattle for milk and meat. Nothing is wasted – not even the goats’ horns, which are used for biodynamic preparations. The vines were planted in 1992 by Stewart Elms, and the current owner, Nigel Greening, bought the estate in 2000. Blair Walter has been winemaker from the start and, drawing on experience in Burgundy and Oregon, has fine-tuned the wines to the magnificence they are today. This is from their MacMuir vineyard – a bold expression, aged for 13 months in 25% new French oak. A fine red with depth and richness that will develop over time.
