The Story Behind the Bottle
While Ernst Loosen is renowned for Mosel Rieslings, this historic producer also crafts great Pinot Noir (aka Spätburgunder) in the Pfalz region. And they can age beautifully, as this evolved 2015 underlines. On first pour, you’ll notice a pale ruby hue, aromas of ripe cherry, and delicate earthy notes. The palate is silky and balanced, with red berry core, light spice and fine-grained tannins. After France and the United States, Germany is the third largest producer of Pinot Noir and magnificent releases like this show they can rival the best of Burgundy and California. A true under-appreciated classic and a must-try red for any fan of silky-smooth, aged Pinot Noir.
