Flavour Profile
Edizione Limitata Numerata Chianti comes to us courtesy of the legendary Franco Bernabei – a former Italian Winemaker of the Year and nicknamed ‘Mr. Sangiovese’ by colleagues. Franco makes this with grapes from ultra-premium Conca d’Oro – or ‘Golden Bowl’ – the finest spot in Chianti Classico.
In bumper vintages, some of the fruit from the Classico vineyards (Chianti's very best) is sold as standard Chianti in order to preserve the prestige of the most sought-after wines. Normally these 'declassified' wines get snapped up by local producers, but our buyer, Leo, is close to the winemaker, Franco Bernabei, who goes by the nickname Mister Sangiovese.
Leo was able to secure a very special parcel of grapes from a top tier winery in the heart of the Conca d'Oro, one of the finest areas of the Classico zone. Their neighbours' best wines sell for £70 a bottle. It might say plain Chianti on the label, but the superior quality in the bottle is unmistakeable.
Expect all the classic character of dark morello cherry, raspberry, plum and spice. Perfect with pasta dishes, grilled meats or tomato-based Italian classics.
