Flavour Profile
Domaine Saumaize-Michelin has attracted huge attention from the wine press in recent years. In 2023, Decanter’s Burgundy expert Charles Curtis MW made the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Sur La Roche his top value pick of the entire Burgundy vintage. And Neal Martin of Vinous.com heaped on the praise, adding “I would argue that a top Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru can match many Puligny 1ers Crus”.
Domaine Saumaize-Michelin Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru La Roche comes from a 1.5 hectare, south-facing plot right in front of the winery – one of the estate’s oldest vineyards. There’s great concentration and weight yet it’s also terrifically bright and energised with juicy citrus and stone fruit, and a persistent, long finish.
“The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, tightly wound but there is superb energy locked up in this 1er Cru with a tingle of ginger right on the finish. Excellent.” 93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.com.
