The Story Behind the Bottle
Named after its famous windmill, Moulin à Vent is also known as the ‘King of Beaujolais’ because of its aromatic, voluptuous wines that can age for a decade or more. Like other wines from the Beaujolais Crus, Moulin à Vent is made purely from Gamay, but it is the manganese rich, granitic soils that give the wine a character that, after ageing, is often compared to fine Burgundy. This superb domaine was founded by Richard Rottiers in 2007 with just 3 hectares of old vines, which has now grown to 5, all between 40-70 years old. This is from an old-vine lieu-dit called Champ de Cour, less than a hectare in size. Aged for six months in barrel on his organic estate, it is rich with ample black fruit, firm tannins and a long finish.
