Domaine Jean Chartron Chassagne Montrachet 2020
Critic Neal Martin wrote Chartron's wines "are well worth seeking out." Owner Jean-Michel was pleased as punch with his 2020s. His Villages Chassagne, a fifth of the grapes from 1er Cru vineyards, has intense white fruit and a core of minerality.

The Story Behind the Bottle
This fifth-generation family estate is integral to the history of Puligny-Montrachet and nearby villages. The founder, Jean-Edouard Dupard, was mayor of Puligny in 1873 when he arranged for the name Montrachet to be added to that of the village. Over the years they’ve built up vineyards to their current 14 hectares, much of it in the finest Premier and Grand Cru locations. Indeed they produce wines from 22 different appellations – 90% of them for white wine. Most of their vines have great maturity, the oldest over 70 years, all treated organically. However, a small portion of this white comes from a young 1er Cru plot, Caillerets. "A high-class Chassagne" (Jasper Morris MW), fermented and aged in 30% new barrels. Decant early or cellar.
