Flavour Profile
Danie de Wet's family have been growing vines in South Africa since 1694. Indeed, the first De Wetshof on Cape turf is thought to have come from Burgundy, with Chardonnay clones stuffed in his trouser pocket. The family have since been pioneers of this variety and 300 years later, their passion for it is undiminished. Indeed, 80% of their vineyards are dedicated to it.
The family today boasts a high-tech winery, as well as extensive vineyards in the premium Robertson region and in 2016, Danie was presented with the 1659 Honorary Award for his legacy to South Africa's wine industry.
From the region's fine limestone soils, the Chardonnay has intense peach and lemony fruit, rippled through with spicy oak from fermentation and ageing in barrel. A fine match for rich white meat dishes or a luxury fish pie.
