The Wine
Oregon in America’s Pacific North West boasts a perfect terroir for viticulture; for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in particular, but also now with Syrah. It’s the third largest wine region in the States, but stands for small-production wines from its 700+ boutique estates. One of the smallest is Antica Terra in Oregon’s prized Willamette Valley. The cellar lies within the Eola-Amity Hills and is the passion of Maggie Harrison. She’s the former winemaker of cult winery Sin Non Qua, until she started out on her own. She makes many tiny cuvées of Pinot Noir, but also superb Syrah, often from foot-trodden grapes, naturally fermented and manually plunged down. With beautifully expressive, firm fruit, this is a fine red. Decant early or cellar.
