The Story Behind the Bottle
Château de Beaucastel is one of the most prestigious estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is best known for its red wines, but don’t overlook its magnificently rich white. James Suckling certainly didn’t, awarding this wine a resounding 94 points. The history of the property goes back to Pierre de Beaucastel’s purchase of land in 1549, after which the château was built. Today this organic estate is run by the respected Perrin family. Though just seven of Beaucastel’s 130 hectares are devoted to white varietals, such is the quality of the property’s terroir that its Châteauneuf Blancs match the exceptional calibre of its reds. This 'textured, dense, silky and harmonious white.... exhibits aromas of baked lemons, verbena, beeswax, wild herbs' (JS) it’s heavenly with sauced white meats or scallops.
