The Story Behind the Bottle
Nicolas Thienpont is one of the most famous names in Bordeaux – his family have owned top properties on the Right Bank for over a century. However, studies in law and philosophy led him a different direction until, in 1983, Château Puygueraud drew him back. He learnt fast and quickly gained respected. In 2011 he bought Château Alcée in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Its 6.5ha of vines are planted on clay over limestone, very similar to the finest Saint-Emilions, and slowly, over the years, he’s refined his work in the vineyard and cellar. Wines from the 2014 vintage have been slow to mature but are drinking well now. Nearly all Merlot, aged in 50% new oak for 15 months, this is a mellow red. Stand upright a few hours in case of sediment.
