Boasso Franco	Barolo del Comune di Serralunga 2021
Enjoy here a fine, young Barolo from a great year that some put on a par with the legendary 2016. From a small family estate with vineyards in the region’s premium crus, Boassa is showing intense, crunchy cherry fruit, polished tannins and freshness.

The Story Behind the Bottle

Gabutti is home to the Boasso family winery in Italy’s prized Piedmont region. The winemaking part of the estate was founded in the 1980s by grower Franco Boasso, who decided he’d like not only to grow the grapes, but to make the wines too. With investment and hard graft, he has raised the quality of his wines considerably and is now joined by his sons Ezio and Claudio.

The family own vineyards in Gabutti, Margheria and Lazzarito vineyards, some of the most important crus in Barolo’s Serralunga, which accounts for the quality of the grapes. They work very traditionally with a long maceration of the berries to ensure great depth of flavour and a maturation of at least 36 months in large wooden botti.

To enjoy this young wine now, open early and decant to let the complex plum and cherry notes, along with tinges of rose, tar and violets, come through. It will continue to improve for a decade or more. A great wine to serve with game casserole or roast red meats.
