The Wine
The Excelsior Estate was founded by the de Wet family in the 1850s. It has always produced wine, though for a time ostrich farming was its main concern. The prized feathers went out of fashion with the rise of the motor car, as tight fitting hats replaced voluptuous bonnets among the trendsetting young of the day. Today, Freddie de Wet and his son Peter run the estate assisted by talented winemaker Johan Stemmet. Maison Rouxvale is a perfect partner for seafood or spicy vegetarian dishes.
