Two years ago, Mike Dawson had a mysterious problem. He’s head winemaker at Journey’s End, responsible for a host of award winning wines. Especially from their tremendous vineyards in Stellenbosch, South Africa’s premium region. But it was those vineyards that were causing him headaches. Literally tonnes of his best grapes were going missing overnight. He never caught the culprits – in the end he had to hire security – the Night Watchmen. The grapes were worth it! After harvest, he gave this delicious wine, a classic Bordeaux blend of both Cabernets and Merlot a year in expensive French oak barrels, and bottled it exclusively for his best UK friends. Fabulously dark and rich, it should be enjoyed with grilled red meat or hearty fare.
