The Wine
Few can boast a longer heritage in Sancerre than Catherine Corbeau Mellot, wife of the late Alexandre Mellot and head of the Joseph Mellot estate. The family have been growing vines in Sancerre since 1513 – in fact, César Mellot was Wine Advisor to Louis XIV. Today they are the only domaine that make fine wines in all eight appellations of the Loire. An impressive feat. Always dedicated to quality, Le Montarlet is considered one of the more herbaceous Sancerres in the Joseph Mellot range. It has an expressive, citrusy, mineral aroma, with grassy fresh, lemon and wet stone notes and hints of fresh peach and mango. It makes a most elegant apéritif, but shows as its best with seafood, white meats and, perhaps best of all, goat's cheese salad.
