You’re invited to a masterclass in the balance of sweet and dry flavours, courtesy of Glenmorangie’s ‘men of Tain’. Nectar d’Or sees their revered single malt finished in casks formerly used to age Bordeaux’s world famous dessert wine, Sauternes.
Tasting notes
Ginger, nutmeg and lemon meringue with a sweet, zesty finish
Aroma
Lime and orange rind, with notes of sultanas, dates and spices
If you’re not sure whether to finish your meal with a glass of dessert wine or a warming dram, then Glenmorangie’s Nectar d’Or combines the two. Part of the distillery’s extra matured range, Nectar d’Or – ‘Or’ being gold in French and Gaelic – spends its first 10 years developing glorious, rich, warming notes of vanilla in new American oak casks. It then spends two further formative years finishing in casks sourced from châteaux in Bordeaux that craft fine Sauternes. As you’re probably aware, Sauternes is an intensely rich, golden dessert wine, and those Bordelais barrels impart that golden colour and those remarkably sweet, spicy flavours and aromas to the whisky. Add a drop or two of water to reveal more complexity and depth of flavour.
