Saint-Estèphe has just two Second Growth estates, both of whose Grand Vin will cost you over £100 a bottle. This unique, one-off red comes from one of those estates. And while it is not the Grand Vin, it is made from the same grapes from the same vineyards and with the same painstaking care and attention to detail. It is surplus juice run off from the main pressing, given a gentle lick of oak and bottled for much earlier drinking – at a fraction of the cost of the flagship star. It is a much younger, fresher, fruit-forward claret, with a seductive scent of violets and bright, red cherry and cassis fruit.
