Maison Joseph Drouhin Chassagne-Montrachet 2019

Chassagne-Montrachet AOC

A delightful, enticing Chassagne Montrachet from a year when "Burgundy hit the bullseye" (James Suckling). It’s from Joseph Drouhin, one of the top names for Burgundy. Still young with its taut linear freshness, ripe apple, citrus and hint of spice.

Founded in 1830, Joseph Drouhin has been a byword for top quality Burgundy for over a century. Neal Martin at Wine Advocate wrote “Drouhin continues to demonstrate what a class act they have become.” Run today by the founder’s four grandchildren, they have a magnificent portfolio of vineyards that extend from Chablis in the north to the Mâconnais. They are firm believers in organic and biodynamic viticulture, part of a philosophy of meticulous attention to detail throughout their range. This fine Chassagne was gently pressed and fermented using wild yeasts before being treated to 11 months in fine French oak, 25% of that new. Drinking beautifully now, it’s best opened early and served in large-bowled glasses. It will reward cellaring too.
