The Wine
This former 18th-century hunting lodge and ornate château lies on the edge of Saint-Julien. Not surprisingly, the wines of Château Belgrave have a similar richness and finesse to those from the great Bordeaux commune, yet offer good value. The estate was adopted by the Dourthe family in 1979 and has been transformed. Refurbishments of the cellar and the property’s 55 hectares of vineyard were the start. Meticulous grape selection in the vineyard and the winery result in even finer quality, especially in such an impressive vintage as 2022. Cabernet-based and aged in fine French oak barriques for 14 months, it has a lovely richness and subtle power, with complexity matching the concentrated fruit. Open early and decant or cellar. A classic.
