The Wine
Vieux Château Saint André is a luscious, Right Bank claret, especially when made such a critically acclaimed vintage. It's from Montagne, one of four satellite regions of Saint-Emilion, the best wines of which can be exceptional and offer impressive value. In his book ‘Bordeaux’, Robert Parker pointed out this is where you consistently find “some of the deepest, richest wines”. Winemaker at Pétrus for 44 years, Jean-Claude retired in 2007 and starting consulting as well as winemaking at his own property. His son Jeff joined him and today "is doing a stunning job at his own family estate". Mostly Merlot with both Cabernets, all barrel matured, the wine has a delicious harmony. Freshness, firm tannins and a core of dark fruit, it'll age well.
