Château Mauvesin Barton 2022
Moulis-en-Médoc AOC Cru Bourgeois

Praise for Bordeaux's 2022 vintage is pouring in: William Kelley wrote, "a vintage of remarkable concentration, energy and harmony", "really something unique" said James Suckling. Mauvesin Barton is a fine Moulis Cru Bourgeois, well-priced too.

The Wine
Situated in Moulis-en-Médoc, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Mauvesin Barton dates back to 1457, with the château being re-built in 1853. The exotically named Baritault de Carpia family owned it for several centuries, until the renowned Bartons, of Langoa and Léoville-Barton fame, bought the estate in 2011. As owners of these prestigious Saint-Julien properties, they set out to improve quality, renovating the vineyards and cellars with great results. Château Mauvesin Barton is a Merlot-dominant blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and a splash of Cabernet Franc. It’s vinified traditionally to capture maximum fruit purity, then aged for up to 15 months in French oak barrels (a third new) to lend spicy complexity. Still young, best decanted early.
