Many believe Château Meyney should've gained Grand Cru Classé status in 1855. Its wines certainly show their class now with this 2022 gaining 94-95 points from Suckling. "A strong effort that will require a bit of patience", wrote William Kelley.

The Wine
Renowned wine writer, Hugh Johnson, says of Château Meyney, “the vineyard is comparable with its Second Growth neighbour Château Montrose and First Growth Latour in its perfect site on the slopes leading straight down to the river”. But when Bordeaux wine estates were classified in 1855, an estate needed impeccable contacts as well as great vineyards, so it missed out on the highest ranking in Bordeaux. Today Château Meyney – one of the oldest in the Médoc – is a Cru Bourgeois estate and, as such, offers excellent value. In the hands of winemaker, Anne Le Naour, the Cabernet-led 2022 was aged 30% in new French oak for 15 months and has intense black fruit, with cedar and mint nuances, plus velvety tannins and poise for long ageing.
