Château Ormes de Pez 2022
Saint-Estèphe AOC Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel
Loading...
The most northerly part of the Haut-Médoc, Saint-Estèphe performs brilliantly in warm vintages, and the summer of 2022 certainly enjoyed the heat. James Suckling described the wine as "full and round with freshness and intensity", awarding 93-94pts.

The Wine
The historic property Château Ormes de Pez takes its name from the nearby village of Pez, while les Ormes refers to a copse of elm trees, long since disappeared. Today the estate is owned by Jean-Michel Cazes, also owner of the cru classé Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac. Indeed the barrels for ageing the wine (usually for 15 months) are from Lynch-Bages, and the wines are made by the same team, led by Daniel Llose. William Kelley of Wine Advocate describes it as, "broad and fleshy, with a deep core of fruit and plenty of powdery structuring tannin", while Suckling writes of it as "a juicy and fruity red with blackberry, black cherry and chocolate character". Best to tuck away for a few years to enjoy its true opulence.
