The Wine
Close to Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, in the northernmost part of the Haut-Médoc, Cissac is a well-established estate dating back to 1769. Its wines today are well loved by customers for being good value, traditional in style, with lovely depth that will reward cellaring. It has been in the Villard family for generations, but it was Louis Villard, who inherited it in 1940 and really brought about a step change, firmly establishing the château name with quality. His daughter Danielle later took charge and today it is his grand daughter, Marie, at the helm. Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a little Petit Verdot and Malbec, this elegant red is aged in barriques, 40% new. A red that needs time to develop. Will reward patience.
