Samuel Billaud Chablis 1er Cru Fourneaux 2023

As you’d expect from Samuel Billaud, “one of the most exciting winemakers in Chablis” (Neal Martin), this is textbook Chablis with stone and chalky minerality. Les Fourneaux is a superbly placed 1er Cru, just next door to Mont de Milieu.

The Story Behind the Bottle
Samuel Billaud is a producer we’ve backed since 2009, when he left his family winery, Domaine Billaud-Simon, to set up on his own. He’s quickly developed a reputation as one of the finest producers in Chablis, considered in the same breath as the likes of Raveneau and Dauvissat. Les Fourneaux lies just next door to Mont de Milieu in the village of Fleys. Furthermore, it’s a south-facing site so has a ripe, sunny disposition. This gives his Chablis a succulent texture and a rich, generous finish without losing any of the fine minerality you expect from the best 1er Crus.
