Domaine de Montille Nuits-St-Georges Villages 'St Julien' 2019

Nuits-Saint-Georges AOC

The De Montille family have been growers in Burgundy since 1730. However, it was the arrival of Hubert de Montille in 1947 that started this domaine's remarkable rise to fame. Their 90-92pt Nuits-St-Georges has superb fruit intensity and length.

The credentials of the De Montille family go back to 1730, when the Burgundy estate was founded by Hubert de Montille. He boasted 20 hectares of vineyard in prime locations. Over the decades these were sold off, so that by the 1940s, the vineyard was a mere 2.5 hectares. Then the second Hubert de Montille arrived and it was all change. He was a true pioneer. He stopped selling wine to négociant and began estate-bottling, producing wines of authenticity and purity, angular in their youth, but excellent with time. His son Etienne had big shoes to step into, but has more than filled them, introducing biodynamic methods in the vineyard and whole bunch fermentation. From 60-year-old vines on iron-rich soils, this Nuits has great potential.

"Heady dark raspberry fruit, some spice behind rather than pepper, good density and structure" Jasper Morris MW
