The Wine
From one of the oldest families in Puligny, Alain Chavy is renowned for his superb, long-lived white Burgundies. He worked with his father Gérard and his brother Jean-Louis until 2003, when he decided to set up on his own. Now he has 7 hectares of superbly situated vineyards, mostly in Puligny-Montrachet, with a few in top plots of Chassagne and Meursault. These are all worked sustainably by him, his wife and his son, Corentin He has also built an underground cellar, six metres below, in Puligny to make his wines and keep them cool. All his wines are fermented in seasoned oak, so lend complexity without adding any major spice notes, while batonnage is kept to a minimum to ensure the wines’ longevity, fruit purity and crisp minerality.
