The Wine
Château Giscours lies in the most southerly part of Margaux. Records from 1330 show there was once a fortified castle on the site of today’s imposing château, while the current building dates back to 1847, surrounded by parkland dotted with ancient trees. Over half of the estate’s vines are more than 50 years old, which accounts in part for the greatness of the wine. They are planted on classic croupes de graves (gravel seams), which provide ideal drainage to ensure rich, concentrated fruit. Up to two years' ageing in fine oak barrels, 66% of those new, lends subtle cedar and vanilla notes. 2022 was one of the best releases from Giscours in the last 50 years. Suckling wrote, "this is a big move forward for Giscours". It'll reward patience.
